Scott Steelman, Head Golf Professional, has been a PGA Class A Member since 2013 and a part of the Las Positas Golf Course family since 2001. Before beginning his career in the golf industry, Scott joined Las Positas as a junior player, where he fell in love with the game. Scott has given fifteen plus years of private lessons and clinics to all age groups and aspects of the game. He has developed a loyal and dedicated following of students that have achieved astounding results. Scott stresses that there are many different swing types and therefore there is no one swing model for all golfers. He feels improvement is measured through setting goals, which the student, along with Scott’s guidance and support, will strive to achieve. Anyone can be a better golfer as long as they have the proper road map to follow. Scott enjoys working with students of all ages and skill levels. Scott has been a competitive player since a young age. He grew up competing in junior golf tournaments in the Bay Area and moved his way up to the college level. He was on the men’s competitive golf team for Chabot College and Cal State East Bay. Scott still loves to play in local competition with other PGA Professionals and is looking forward to helping you improve your game.

My swing philosophy stems back to my days when I was a head golf professional in Los Angeles and had the privilege to study under Eddie Merrins, The Little Pro out of Bel Aire Country Club. If you think of the grip of the club as a handle and you keep the handle in front of the club head, this will create a lot more lag in the swing and making contact with ball first. Combined with swinging the handle, I feel that any swing must have the five basic pre-swing fundamentals. Grip, stance, posture, alignment and ball position. Basic fundamentals are the key to any swing no matter the level of talent or knowledge of the golf swing. Lastly, I focus on working from the ground up. Meaning that a good base and a solid foundation are key in capturing and utilizing the biggest muscles, your legs to create more power and distance.
